Originally known as Shuswap Lake Ferry Service Ltd. we were the ferry service on Mara and Shuswap Lakes in the Shuswap area of British Columbia.
- We serviced cabins which were accessable only by water.
- We delivered supplies, propane, people, vehicles, animals etc.
- We delivered total cabins up the lake as well as cement trucks and gravel and sand, etc.
- We transported logging trucks from up the lake to accessible roads to carry on to the sawmills.
- We had tug boats, barges, landing craft and a 40 passenger paddlewheeler known as the Phoebe Ann.
- We purchased the 70 year old company in 1992 and later sold the boats and barges and started a business of pile driving, dredging logs, dredging bark and debris, pile driving with a conventional crane and building docks.
Eventually we sold the boats and barges but carried on in the logging sector and building docks as well as pile driving.
In 2008 we purchased a vibrating pile driver that is an attachment for the Volvo excavator which vibrated pilings into the ground. We work on land or on water, repairing bridges for the Highways, doing sensitive work for the Parks around water that a conventional pile driver would not be allowed to do.
Our company changed it’s name from Shuswap Lake Ferry Service Ltd. to R W Gallant Equipment Ltd. to better describe our work as we are not a ferry service now.
- We build docks and walkways for private or commercial companies and drive pilings with such success that a conventional pile driver cannot do.
- We drive sheet piles, h-beams, round pipe or wood piles.
- We also build seawalls using sheet piles or h-beams with a wall constructed with logs or timbers and tie backs.
